Living outdoors in the bounty of summer; enjoying the warmth of the hearth in the chill winter. A nostalgia for the summer bungalows of the client's childhood and a delight in mid-century lifestyles coupled with a stunning setting that connected every room to the outdoors informed an extensive exploration of casual living on the coast. Architecture inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement was complemented with interiors spanning decades.
Elements of the original house were retained: a sunny central courtyard entry wrapped by all the public spaces; a pass through from the Kitchen to the Dining Room recreated with customized stained glass doors; a screened porch re-imagined as a Moroccan tent, completely opening to the outdoors with NanaWall doors all around. Interior finishes, furniture and fittings were selected for their enduring beauty and ability to withstand the abuses of sand and sea.
